Joachim von der Lieth-Thomsen (8 April 1896 – 19 November 1918) was a German Pilot of the First World War.

Life

Joachim Thomsen was born in Metz, where his father, Hermann von der Lieth-Thomsen, was stationed. He followed his father's footsteps into the Imperial Army. The son of the staff's Chief of the Luftstreitkräfte quickly became Officer (Leutnant zur See) within the German Marine Air Force. During a mission over the Thames Estuary on 9 July 1917, while he was flying with Wilhelm Löwes another member of II F-Staffel, Joachim von der Lieth-Thomsen was hit by a shot from a British ship. Taken prisoner of war by the British Army, he died on 19 November 1918 at Dartford Hospital. He was buried at Channock Chase cemetery.
